OpenSong Import

OpenSong Import primarily refers to OpenSong Import (OSI), a free, Windows-only companion application designed to move lyric and chord files into the OpenSong church presentation software from external formats. It is a standalone utility that simplifies the song ingestion process, though the term also encompasses the built-in import features found across the desktop software and the OpenSongApp for Android. 💻 OpenSong Import (OSI) Companion App

The dedicated OpenSong Import (OSI) utility is hosted alongside official software releases on the OpenSong Downloads Page.

Primary Function: It acts as a bridge to convert diverse external text formats into standard, presentation-ready OpenSong XML files.

Core Formats: Its default built-in configuration targets the CCLI SongSelect text format. It converts raw lyric transcripts, though it only processes lyrics and text rather than sheet music or original PDF charts.

Customisation: Written in Delphi, the full source code is public, allowing advanced users to write custom parameters for user-definable text formats. 📱 Importing via OpenSongApp (Android)

If you are using the mobile OpenSongApp, the platform handles file importing directly within the interface via Settings > Song actions > Add songs > File (or Multiple files). The application handles various file types upon import:

Native Files: .xml or .ost OpenSong native files are copied directly into the app without modification.

ChordPro & OnSong: .chordpro, .cho, and .onsong files are dynamically converted straight into native OpenSong formatting.

Static Documents: .pdf documents and image files (.jpg, .png) can be imported to view as slides, but they cannot be actively edited or transposed unless text extraction is run.

Online Scraping: Built-in online lookup tools can sync directly with lyric databases and convert chord charts on the fly. 🔄 Cross-Platform Migration

Because OpenSong structures its songs as individual files inside a master Documents/opensong/Songs directory, OpenSong files are regularly imported into other alternative worship platforms.
